Comics, Comics, and MORE Comics!

July 05, 2011

Time for news from the front! I’ve got quite a few irons in the fire this month, so I’ll talk about it all systematically – one paragraph per iron. ;)

First and foremost, Blackbirds has a new page up! Be sure to check it out. It’s the first page of the comic ever drawn #1: digitally, and #2: in front of a live web audience. These are both the starts of new trends! I found that drawing on Livestream ups my efficiency and productivity, so I’ll be streaming as I make comics and illustrations almost every day from now on. I will be announcing the times on my Twitter, art!Tumblr, DeviantART, and FB page (follow along if you will)!

Also! I am teaming up with the amazing Katie Shanahan to create a story for Heroic: A Womanthology, which is exactly what it sounds like: an anthology of comics made 100% by women that is going to be published by IDW. As if that wasn’t cool enough, all the money is going to charity! I will be writing the story, and Katie will be drawing it. To find out more about the project and all the amazing women and girls working on it, please visit our official site. =)

Furthermore, the Olympia Comics Collective has a site now! For those of you still out of the loop, the O.C.C. is a collective of comics artists and writers comprised of *whoever wants to show up that day* in Olympia, WA. Our numbers fluctuate between our core four and up to twenty independent cartoonists living and laughing in our small town. So far our members have helped organize and held workshops at the Olympia Comics Festival, displayed at three gallery shows since January, and published our first anthology called Frontiers: An Olympia Cartoonists Anthology in May. Our second anthology, Laundry Day: An Olympia Cartoonists Anthology, is set to debut at the Jet City Comic Show in Seattle this September! All profits from our anthologies go toward raising enough money to fund an open studio space in Downtown Olympia that all our comics creators can call home.

Speaking of gallery shows, here’s a link to some photos of our most recent showing at the Northern Gallery downtown, organized by our own Chelsea Baker!

That sure is a lot of links.

Frontiers and the Olympia Comics Festival

May 21, 2011

Man, today was a blast! As you may or may not remember, the post I made about starting a collective of Olympia cartoonists actually went somewhere; the Olympia Comics Collective has been meeting since early January and premiered its first group anthology at today’s Olympia Comics Festival. A lot of folks seem very happy and/or excited to see that a collective existed, and we hopefully got some new regulars.

As for the anthology, it’s called Frontiers: An Olympia Cartoonists Anthology and features work by myself, Zoey Hogan, Tucker Rzepecki, Rick Perry, and Chris Sabatini. All proceeds from sales of Frontiers are going toward funding a collective studio space in downtown Olympia, WA, open to all Olympia cartoonists! Now that the festival is over, copies will be available for sale at Danger Room Comics. Not a local but still want to support great cartoonists and collective projects? Email me privately to arrange payment and delivery. :)

PS: Today I got paid to draw Blacula. Score.

Blackbirds Is BACK + Art!

March 31, 2011

That’s right boy and girls, the moment you’ve all been waiting for! Blackbirds has returned from hiatus! There’s also new work up on Art Roll (the place to find my most polished work): a play-by-post roleplay game world map done for Realm of the Shen. In other news, I just signed up as the letterer for Miss Tilney and the Incorrigible Lord Harwood, the next big title being put out by Dusk Comics. Life is good. =)
